The Masked Singer result has fans demanding big voting change for next series

Masked Singer fans have called for a big change in the way the voting works for the new series after this year's winner was crowned.

After seven weeks of having millions of viewers playing Sherlock Holmes on their sofas, the second series 2 of the crazy and massively addictive ITV show came to an end on Saturday night.

And what a final it was as Robin, Badger and Sausage battled it out for the 2021 crown as last year's winner, Queen Bee herself, Nicola Roberts, joined the panel for the occasion.

After each act has performed once, the Masked Singer studio audience kicked out Robin aka Aston Merrygold in third place, before both Badger and Sausage gave it one last shot at victory with Badger belting out Wrecking Ball and Sausage opting for a reprise of Rise Up.

It was then down to the studio audience to have their say again and they picked Sausage as their winner while Ne-Yo revealed as Badger in second place.

And, while many viewers at home were happy with Sausage's victory, they are growing tired at having no say in the result.

Frustrations were first aired after popular singers Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Mel B and Martine McCutcheon were all given the boot in the first few weeks and as the credits rolled in the final, fans took to Twitter again to share their thoughts on a public vote being introduced.

Taking aim at the result, one angry fan reacted: "absolutely rubbish re the winner it isn't a contest the panel guess but irrelevant some random people in the audience decide who to unmask and what has the winner done nothing ridiculous."

In agreement, another posted: "Honestly the masked singer would be so much better if the panel took it seriously. Maybe even without a panel at all, just Joel Dommett, social media feed, and a public vote."

The big issue with having a public vote is that The Masked Singer is recorded well in advance, with series 2 thought to have been filmed in the autumn after lockdown restrictions had been lifted.
