The Masked Singer judge Jonathan Ross confirms show's return for third series

Hit ITV show The Masked Singer will begin filming a third series later this year.

The hugely successful second series will end this weekend with a spectacular final as three famous faces are unmasked who have performed as Sausage, Robin and Badger over the last eight weeks.

Since launching with 4.2 million viewers on Boxing Day, The Masked Singer has increased audience every week by at least 200,000 viewers to achieve its biggest audiences yet for the semi-final last Saturday - with 7.1 million tuning in on the night and many more watching on catch up service ITV Hub.

This episode was TV’s biggest audience, outside of news and sports, so far this year.

As part of an interview in Saturday's Daily Mirror, judge Jonathan Ross confirmed that the show will return for a third series and hinted the line up is set to stay the same with host Joel Dommett and judges Mo Gilligan, Davina McCall and Rita Ora seemingly signed up.

Asked if there was anything he could say about the if the show would return, Jonathan said: “Okay, well we're doing a third series. And I'm doing the third series. And I shouldn't speak about who the other judges are but you're not going to be surprised.

“I'm looking forward to doing it because it's a fun way to spend the evening."

Jonathan hinted the line up is set to stay the same, with Mo Gilligan, Davina McCall, Matt Lucas, Rita Ora and Jonathan himself reportedly set to return (ITV)

He went on: “On The Masked Singer, I'm as much a viewer as a participant, for part of the evening.

“Rita's lovely to hang around with, there's no front with Rita. She's not at all starry, she's a real sweet kid. She's a lovely girl.

“Davina's wonderful, we all love Davina don't we. And Mo is great fun and he's brought a real breath of fresh air. And Joel couldn't be lovelier. So there's a real, genuine chemistry I think on the panel and we really have a great time. And I think hopefully that comes across at home.”

Robin and Sausage will be unmasked this week (ITV)

The new series will be filmed later in the year but it is too soon to say when it will be back on ITV.

The second series launched on Boxing Day and some TV sources have suggested the channel could launch the next series on Christmas Day as it has become so popular with fans of all ages.

ITV will also be screening the spin off show The Masked Dancer later this year.
