Fans of The Masked Singer were gobsmacked when a nineties icon was unmasked as one of the quirky characters.
Spice Girl Mel B was revealed as the voice behind Seahorse on episode two of the second series of the surreal ITV singing competition hosted by Joel Dommett.
Viewers couldn't believe that a member of the best-selling girl group of all time, who sold 85 million records worldwide, was being voted home in the second week of the contest.
One viewer tweeted: "NOOOOOO!! I’m in absolute shock. Mel B did not save pop music along with @spicegirls in the 90s to be unmasked second on @MaskedSingerUK."
Another exclaimed: "Imagine being in one of the most iconic pop groups of the 90s and not get past the first round of a Saturday singing TV show ... ouch."
And another tweeted: "I’m not having that it was Mel B! "Literally not having it! STOP THE COUNT!"
Mel, 45, whose real name is Melanie Brown, explained why she wanted to do The Masked Singer.
"The show's a great show," the Say You'll Be There singer told Joel.
And Joel was clearly impressed with their guest star, who is also known as Scary Spice.
"This is so cool," he said.
Fans pointed out that something seems amiss with two professional singing stars voted out in the first two weeks.
"Two icons gone in two weeks. What a disgrace," tweeted one.
"Two of the most recognisable singing voices in the country booted out in the first two weeks.
"And guessed within seconds by peeps on Twitter! I think they need to rethink their choices next year," said another.
Last weekend many viewers watching at home thought they had Alien's identity guessed from the start because of her distinctive voice, and they were proven right as pop star Sophie Ellis-Bexter was revealed.
"First Sophie Ellis and now Mel B. What is happening?" asked another fan.
During the first series earlier this year The Masked Singer viewers were stunned when musical superstar Kelis was unmasked as Daisy.
Kelis, who had huge hits with the Trick Me, Caught Out There and Milkshake, had been hiding behind a flowery disguise.
But fans of the show were convinced that the actual Kelis couldn't be on their telly on Saturday night singing as a daisy.
