The Masked Dancer viewers floored by 'embarrassing' moment as the first celebrity is voted off

The Masked Dancer kicked off tonight with a line-up of bizarre costumes to keep viewers wondering.

The aim of the new ITV show is to guess which celebs are performing beneath an array of elaborate disguises, similar to its predecessor The Masked Singer but with dance moves.

Tonight viewers met Zip, Knickerbocker Glory, Beetroot, Llama, Scarecrow and Viper, and fans were shocked as the first celebrity was voted off the show.

Professional dancer Jordan Banjo from the dance trouple Diversity was unmasked as Viper in the first episode and viewers branded the decision 'embarrassing.'

"So the professional Dancer gets booted off first. So erm ... career change?" tweeted one viewer.

"Well thats embarrassing," said another as Jordan was sent home.

"What the heck?" challenged another.

"What???? Getting rid of viper!!! Wrong," slammed another fan.

Another viewer asked: "Is that a joke?"

And another commented: "Shocked who they sent home."

Jordan, who shot to fame when Diversity won Britain's Got Talent in 2009 and has gone on to co-present the BBC contest The Greatest Dancer, joked that his brother Diversity leader Ashley might not be too happy.

"He might sack me," he joked.

On his decision to take part in the line-up he said that after the tough year we've had he was looking forward to 'dressing up stupid and having a laugh.'

"Let's have some fun man," he said.

"I can't believe that viper is @Jordan_Banjo and good on him for doing this on the #MaskedDancerUK," said one supporter.

The star busted some moves underneath a serpent-inspired costume to the Lenny Kravitz hit Are You Gonna Go My Way.

Tomorrow night new characters will follow in the footsteps of tonight’s dancers as star judges Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross, Oti Mabuse and Mo Gilligan attempt to guess who they are.

Squirrel, Carwash, Flamingo, Rubber Chicken, Frog and Beagle will all take to the dance floor.

The Masked Dancer on ITV and the ITV Hub continues at 7.30pm on Sunday.
