The Masked Dancer's Beagle tipped to be Alan Shearer by panellist Mo Gilligan

In a TV shock that no-one coming, footballing legend Alan Shearer had his name thrown into the mix to be one of the contestants on The Masked Dancer.

The successful spin-of of ITV ratings winner The Masked Singer continued with its fourth episode on Tuesday night and one of the acts in action was Beagle.

Prior to his performance of Elvis classic You Ain't Nothing But A Hound Dog, Beagle's VT was full of football hints and clues, which is where the possibility of it being Newcastle United 's prolific striker behind the mask.

And that was exactly the path that Masked Dancer panellist and comedian Mo Gilligan went down as he told host Joel Dommett that Beagle could well be Big Al.

He cemented his guess with a rather dodgy attempt at the Geordie accent, which Mo himself admitted made him sound Jamaican.

Prior to Tuesday night's show, bookies had ex Strictly pro AJ Pritchard as the favourite to be Beagle and other names put forward by the panel included Gethin Jones, Harry Judd, Anton du Beke and even Noel Gallagher.

Viewers have also come up with a wide variety of guesses, with an eclectic mix of famous faces linked to Beagle including Ray Quinn, Strictly pro Neil Jones and James Blunt.

Beagle got through on the audience vote on Tuesday, with Rubber Chicken being the fourth dancer to be shown the door.

After the latest unmasking, he was revealed to be none other than Winter Olympian Eddie the Eagle, which his identity coming as a huge surprise to the panel and many viewers at home.
