The Masked Dancer lands second series as spin-off show will return in 2022

The Masked Dancer will be returning to our screens for a second series and producers have promised the ''most bonkers series yet''.

The announcement has left fans wondering what weird and wonderful costumes they could come up with to top Bonnie Langford's standout Squirrel performance of the show's debut series.

But show producer's Bandicoot's directors teased the second series will be filled with ''crazy costumes, mind-blowing moves and maddeningly compelling clues''.

MD Derek McLean and creative director Daniel Nettleton confirmed in a statement: "With the mayhem we’re lining up for 2022, we are already planning for the most bonkers series yet."

The show's debut series attracted big names to it's panel including guest stars such as Holly Willoughby (ITV)

And so the show's come back - which is a spin-off from The Master Singer - will see another 12 celebrities dancing wearing wacky masks as judges Oti Mabuse, Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall and Mo Gilligan attempt to guess who’s behind the mask.

Last series the panel also welcomed showbiz pals into the mix as John Bishop, Holly Willoughby and David Walliams were tasked to give their verdicts on the mystery celebs.

Olympic gymnast and former Strictly winner Louis Smith was crowned the champion of season one after a week of guess work from viewers.

ITV ’s Head of Entertainment Katie Rawcliffe praised the show's winning format as she announced it's return.

Speaking during ITV's 2022 Entertainment Launch she explained: “On Masked Dancer, which we obviously tried this year and it was great.

“And great casting, Craig Revel Horwood, Zoe Ball, Christopher Dean - you don’t get people like that to take part in shows very often.

“So to do that and have that as a great success was great, and to have Oti join the panel, another stellar detective.

“And so it is also great to be saying we’re going to be doing that again later this year.”

Last year’s line up also featured Take That’s Howard Donald as Zip and Kelly Brook as Frog.

Viewers were quick to comment on Diversity’s dance star Jordan Banjo was first out - despite his long list of dancing credentials.

And fans won't have to wait too long as the second series of The Masked Singer will return on New Year's Day on ITV with Joel Dommett back as host.
