The market says Steelers K Chris Boswell’s job is safe in 2019

When everything started going wrong for Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Chris Boswell last season, the team did nothing. Instead of meeting what was a dire situation head on Pittsburgh sat back and hoped the situation would correct itself. It didn’t.

In fact, the situation got so bad, Boswell ended up suspiciously on injure reserve just days before the biggest game of the season and the Steelers had to bring Matt McCrane off the street and he hit all three of his field goal tries. The Steelers chose not to keep McCrane.

So now, with just a few days to training camp Boswell is working to get back to form and is doing so with very little opposition. The Steelers did add rookie Matthew Wright but it’s doubtful he adds much pressure to Boswell’s situation.

As far as free agency goes, McCrane is the only guy on the market who could challenge Boswell. But if he was a serious option he’d still be under contract instead of Wright.

It really feels like the Steelers are going to royally fumble this situation if Boswell can’t start kicking like he did in 2017.
