The Mandalorian season 2 finally unveils Baby Yoda's real name and backstory

The Mandalorian has finally revealed Baby Yoda’s real name.

The Star Wars spin-off series has been a big hit with fans of the franchise on Disney+ with the second run reaching epic new heights.

The second season has focused primarily on The Mandalorian/Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) seeking to discover the origins of The Child - nicknamed Baby Yoda by fans.

The duo have encountered endless adventures in the run up to some answers but this week we finally discovers details of who The Child is and we even discovered his name!

Yes, we finally know what we should be calling Baby Yoda...

*Spoiler warning for The Mandalorian Chapter 13: The Jedi*

What is Baby Yoda’s real name in The Mandalorian season 2?

Din finally delivers The Child to a Jedi in the form of Clone Wars veteran Ahsoka Tano, here played by Sin City star Rosario Dawson.

After accepting he was sent by her Mandalorian ally Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackoff), Ahsoka communes with the Child through the force and reveals that he was raised in the Jedi Temple before the Clone Wars and eventually he was taken to safety as the Jedi order fell to the Galactic Empire, after which his memory goes hazy.

The Mandalorian finally revealed Baby Yoda's name is....Grogu (Disney)

Ahsoka then reveals that The Child’s name is Grogu.

By the end of the episode, it becomes clear that Ahsoka is unwilling to train Grogu in the ways of the Force as she fears his strong emotional attachment to Din, who he sees as a father.

She is aware firsthand from Anakin Skywalker that even the greatest Jedi can fall foul of their strong emotions, becoming Darth Vader.

Star Wars Clone Ward and Rebels character Ahsoka Tano - here in animated form - made her debut played by Rosario Dawson (LUCASFILM)
The Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) was sent to Ahsoka by Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackoff) in Lucasfilm's THE MANDALORIAN, season two (Francois Duhamel/Lucasfilm)

However, as Din is keen for Grogu to get further training and so Ahsoka recommends he travels to a planet with an ancient Jedi Temple and for Grogu to sit on the seeing stone and decide his future - and perhaps a Jedi will come calling for him.

Meanwhile, Ahsoka looks to continue her mission to find a still-living member of the Galactic Empire: Grand Admiral Thrawn.

The Mandalorian season 2 releases new episodes every Friday on Disney+.
