The Mandalorian and Grogu: everything we know so far about the next Star Wars movie

Din Djarin and Grogu in The Mandalorian & Grogu.

The Mandalorian and Grogu is fast approaching, which means Star Wars will soon return to the big screen for the first time since 2019's The Rise of Skywalker.

Even with just a few weeks left to go, another trailer for the film has been released (which you can read all about below). And, if that wasn't enough, the opening of the film was also screened at CinemaCon. In short, it's a very exciting time to be a fan of Din Djarin and his tiny green charge, Baby Yoda.

Right here, we've rounded up everything there is to know about The Mandalorian and Grogu, which is one of the most exciting of the upcoming Star Wars movies and shows. You'll find all you need to know about the plot, the cast, the trailers, and much more besides. Plus, we also give you the lowdown on The Mandalorian season 4, which makes the movie all the more exciting. So, for all you need, head to the below. This is the way!

The Mandalorian & Grogu movie is set to be released on May 22, 2026.

This will be the first new Star Wars movie since 2019's The Rise of Skywalker, and will be followed by the likes of Dave Filoni's film, the Rey movie, and James Mangold's film about the origins of the Force.

The Mandalorian & Grogu trailer

The final trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu arrived at CinemaCon. Check it out above.

Another trailer arrived in February. In it, we see Din Djarin unmasked, Baby Yoda using the Force, and more of the Hutts. This followed on from a Super Bowl TV spot that didn't reveal much about the plot, but did show our favorite duo together.

The first trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu movie arrived on September 22, 2025. The footage features the titular pair, Sigourney Weaver's character, AT-AT, Stormtroopers, Zeb, Rotta the Hutt, and so much more. This new galactic adventure is action-packed and full of Star Wars lore, which you can find out about in our The Mandalorian and Grogu trailer breakdown.

The Mandalorian & Grogu cast

There are only a couple of confirmed new members of the cast so far. Those are:

  • Pedro Pascal – The Mandalorian
  • Sigourney Weaver – Colonel Ward
  • Jeremy Allen White – Rotta the Hutt
  • Steve Blum – Zeb Orrelios

While we don't have many details on Sigourney Weaver's character, she did tell us a bit about her role. "I play a wonderful character who is, you know, in a position of authority. And I have to send the Mandalorian out on a mission on the Outer Rim where all the bad stuff happens," she confirmed in an exclusive interview with GamesRadar+.

Weaver also confirmed to GamesRadar+ that Baby Yoda was the main reason why she decided to be part of the film. "I get to have scenes with a little Grogu which is probably why I did the movie," she said. "And he's a little badass too. It's going to be wonderful for people to see what Grogu is up to now because he's grown up a little bit and is capable of much more than maybe we think just watching the series."

In October 2025, Jeremy Allen White finally broke his silence on his Star Wars casting as Rotta the Hutt, the son of Jabba the Hutt from the original trilogy. The actor revealed it was Jon Favreau who asked him to come in and do a voiceover for Star Wars. "It’s been a fun process. I came in to do the voice, they hadn’t filmed the movie yet," he said. "Then they made the movie, I came and did more, I’ll probably have to do a little bit more. I spoke to Pedro [Pascal] the other day, and I think he was doing some more work in the booth and seeing more of the film. I’m very excited to take my kids to see that one. I think it’s gonna be really fun."

We also know that Zeb Orrelios from Star Wars Rebels has a role in the film, but who's playing him isn't confirmed yet.

Beyond the confirmed cast, though, it's unclear just who we'll be seeing in the movie. The likes of Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan Kryze and Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano could make cameos, as could Amy Sedaris's Peli Motto, and Emily Swallow's Armorer.

Katy O'Brian confirmed that her The Mandalorian character Elia Kane won't be in the new movie. "I don't know if they're going to do a season 4. I know the movie's coming out. I know I'm not in it," she said.

The Mandalorian & Grogu plot speculation

A detailed synopsis for the movie arrived with the first trailer: "The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu. Directed by Jon Favreau, Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu also stars Sigourney Weaver and is produced by Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Dave Filoni, and Ian Bryce, with music composed by Ludwig Göransson."

From the other trailers released so far, we know that Mando and Grogu will be on a mission involving Rotta the Hutt. Roughly the first 15 minutes of the film were screened at CinemaCon, which explained that Din Djarin and Din Grogu go to rescue Rotta in exchange for the Hutt's help tracking down a mysterious villain by the name of Coyne.

Another possible synopsis for the movie hit the internet during the Walt Disney Studios Marketing Expo in China. It called Grogu "the Force's heir in the galaxy," which is certainly an exciting tease. But, the original post has been deleted.

Rotta the Hutt himself has also given us a hint about his role in the film. Speaking to Graham Norton, Jeremy Allen White confirmed that Rotta and Mando would be teaming up for the bulk of the movie. "It's kind of like him and the Mandalorian running around for a lot of the movie together," White said. When asked by Norton if Rotta can really run, White clarified: "Rotta can move, yeah, quickly."

Plus, Weaver hinted that the film would be very different from Andor. "It [Andor] won't be as good as The Mandalorian [& Grogu], just letting you know," Weaver told Collider, before adding that "it's a different world."

Beyond what we know for sure, the Ahsoka show returned Grand Admiral Thrawn and Ezra Bridger to the main galaxy, which could end up affecting Mando and Grogu. Plus, though Giancarlo Esposito's Moff Gideon was killed in the finale, there are some compelling theories that he could also return via clone-related shenanigans. It all remains to be seen for now.

Will there be a Mandalorian season 4?

At the moment, it's unclear whether there will be a The Mandalorian season 4 or not. At first, it was reportedly still happening in addition to the movie, but another report soon cast doubt on that.

Per a newsletter from The Hollywood Reporter, before the strikes shut down Hollywood, season 4 was written and ready to go (as Jon Favreau himself said back in February 2023). But, when Hollywood came to a standstill, Lucasfilm pivoted to a movie – leaving season 4's future in doubt.

But, one of Din Djarin's physical performers, Brendan Wayne, said in November 2023 that the fourth season was being "ramped up." Whether he meant the movie or not is unclear for now.
