Manchester City look set to receive a transfer windfall following Jadon Sancho's move to Manchester United, amid summer links with Erling Haaland.
The English winger was confirmed as a Red Devil on Friday afternoon as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sealed a £73million deal for his signature.
He makes the switch to Old Trafford following a hugely successful four years in the Bundesliga and strengthens United even further as they attempt to close the gap to Pep Guardiola’s side at the top of the Premier League table.
In the process, however, they may also have played a potential role in the destination of Dortmund’s other star - Haaland.
Both Chelsea and Manchester City have been reported as admirers of the Norwegian hitman, with Guardiola and Blues boss Thomas Tuchel keen to bolster their respective attacks ahead of next season.
In the deal that originally took Sancho to Dortmund in 2017, Manchester City negotiated a 15% sell-on clause with the German giants, according to The Mirror.
This means that with the total fee being £73m, the current Premier League champions are owed £10.95m for the transfer of Sancho.
With the £35m that City have scooped this summer from the respective sales of Jack Harrison, Angelino and Lukas Nmecha, their transfer funds now have what could be another crucial boost in the race for Haaland. Reports have previously suggested that Borussia Dortmund are asking for £150m for the Norwegian this summer.
Having now earned approximately £45m from sales, Manchester City will certainly not have to stump up their own funds quite as considerably to bring the striker to the Etihad Stadium this summer.
Guardiola has previously stated that his side would not be able to spend quite so frivolously on a forward this summer, but with City earning even more cash boosts with Sancho’s move back to Manchester, that opinion could well change.
Speaking at the end of last season, the Spaniard said: “At the prices (quoted) we are not going to buy any strikers. It is impossible, we cannot afford it.
“All clubs are struggling financially, we are not an exception.”
