For as dominant as Manchester United were in the first 15 years of the Premier League, they'd always been a club who weren't afraid to give young players a chance.
The club boasts one of the better youth systems in world football - with a number of homegrown stars going on to be considered Premier League greats.
And under new manager Ralf Rangnick, we could very well see more names make their Premier League debut for United this season.
A proponent of putting youth players in his matchday squad, five players have recently been promoted to the first team.
And whilst some players will go on to become United regulars, it's inevitable that some just won't work out.
Here, we take a look at the 25 players who managed just one appearance with the Red Devils in the Premier League.
Ben Amos
Ben Amos was officially a United first-team goalkeeper for seven years. However, he would spend six of these years away from the club on loan.
In his one season with United's first team, Amos made his single league appearance in a 2-0 victory against Stoke City.
Amos left the club in 2015, joining Bolton Wanderers. He is now at Millwall.
Joel Pereira
Another goalkeeper who remained at the club for over five years, Joel Pereira only left the club this past summer joining Dutch side RKC Waalwijk.
The Portuguese stopper made his single appearance for United against Crystal Palace in a 2-0 victory. One of the goalscorers on that day was...
Josh Harrop
A 100% goal to game ratio for Josh Harrop, who made his debut and scored in the same Crystal Palace game.
He became the 100th player to score for United in the Premier League that day, before rejecting a new contract just days later and joining Preston North End - where he remains.
Ricardo
The Spanish goalkeeper was a back-up option at every single club in his career until he joined Valladolid in 1998.
His performances earned him two international caps for Spain before being signed by United in 2002.
In his three years at the club, his one game would come against Blackburn - where he saved a penalty against David Dunn.
Paul Rachubka
Ricardo was given his United debut after a Fabian Barthez injury - and that's exactly how Paul Rachubka got his one game too.
He got his start against Leicester City after the Frenchman was injured in the warm-up.
Rachubka went on to have a long career in lower league football.
Colin McKee
One of the lesser members of the Class of '92, Colin McKee was a natural scorer within the youth sides playing alongside David Beckham, Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs.
But his career with United's first team just never took off, as he returned to Scotland before going on to play for almost every time in Scottish football.
Lee Roche
Another player who spent a long time at the club - six years in total between 1997 and 2003 - but made just one Premier League appearance.
He came on as a second-half substitute in a memorable 5-3 win over Newcastle in 2002.
Roche went on to have a solid career in lower league football before retiring in 2011.
Bojan Djordijc
The winner of the 1999/00 Jimmy Murphy award (best player U23), the Swedish midfielder never reached the heights expected of him.
He left the club after just one game in 2005, joining Rangers where he'd stay for four years.
His career has taken him in full circle - as he has worked as a pundit for MUTV, as well as back in his native country.
Mauncho
A seemingly strange signing from the beginning - joining as a 25-year-old from Angolan football, Manucho was just never close to being good enough to get into United's stacked 2008/09 roster.
The Angolan did make the single appearance though, before joining Hull City on loan and eventually leaving permanently to join Valladolid.
He retired in 2019.
Danny Pugh
The Manchester-born Pugh made his one appearance as a late sub against Tottenham in 2004, before joining Leeds United as part of a swap deal that saw Alan Smith go the other way.
He would remain at Leeds for a few seasons, before returning to them six years later for a second spell.
He retired in 2020.
Philip Mulryne
After retiring in 2008 at the age of just 30, Mulryne became ordained as a Roman Catholic priest.
He currently is posted to St Mary's Priory Church, Cork as a novice master after over 10 years of study.
Oh and yes, he also once played for Manchester United.
Dong Fangzhou
The first East Asian player to sign for United, Dong Fangzhou was brought in from China after only scoring two goals in his career to date.
He was immediately loaned out to Belgian side Royal Antwerp on a two-year loan where he impressed - scoring 34 goals in 71 games.
He returned to United to make just one appearance, partnership Ole Gunnar Solskjaer up front against Chelsea.
He then returned to China and was never able to perform as well as he did in Belgium.
Lee Martin
Signed from Wimbledon for £1 million at the age of just 15, Martin would go on to earn an appearance for the club in his last season after six loan spells.
He's currently at Ebbsfleet United, after making over 150 appearances in the Championship.
Demetri Mitchell
The third youngster who was given his debut against Crystal Palace by Jose Mourinho.
After two loan spells to Hearts, Mitchell left United permanently in 2020 - joining Blackpool, where he remains.
Nick Culkin
Signed from York City for £100,000 as a 16-year-old, Culkin played just once for United... barely.
He holds the record for the shortest debut in Premier League history, replacing Raimond van der Gouw against Arsenal in 1999, only for the final whistle to be blown immediately after he took a free-kick.
His debut lasted two seconds. A truly memorable two seconds, it was.
Kieran Lee
Manchester-born Lee came through the ranks at United and made his single appearance for United in the same team which saw Dong make his debut against Chelsea.
The 33-year-old spent four years at Oldham, before eight years at Sheffield Wednesday - where injuries had hugely plagued him.
He's now with Bolton Wanderers.
David Healy
Northern Ireland's top scorer of all time came through United's youth teams before playing just once before a few solid seasons with Ipswich and Leeds.
He's now manager at current Northern Ireland champions Linfield in Belfast.
Tom Thorpe
A captain in the youth set-up, Tom Thorpe was given his chance in the first-team squad by Louis van Gaal in 2014. He replaced Angel di Maria in stoppage time against West Ham.
After leaving the club in 2015, for Rotherham, Thorpe managed less than 40 games before last being seen in India with ATK.
He has not been with a club since the age of 25.
Tom Lawrence
The Welshman joined United at the age of eight and progressed through the ranks into the first-team.
He was given his lone appearance by his international manager Ryan Giggs, who was in the player-coach role.
Giggs brought himself on for Lawrence later in the game.
He is now captain of Derby County.
James Weir
The then 20-year-old midfielder came on as a late substitute for the injured Ander Herrera in a 3-2 win against Arsenal.
After a few sporadic appearances in the Championship, Weir now plays in Hungary.
Donald Love
Love spent 14 years at United in their youth teams and first-team, coming on against Sunderland with van Gaal giving him his debut.
Love then joined Sunderland the following season, before later moving to Shrewsbury Town and now Salford City.
Michael Keane
The Everton and England centre-back remained at Manchester United until the age of 22.
His one game came in his final season at the club against Sunderland.
He then joined Burnley, before signing for Everton for £25 million two years later.
James Garner
Moving on to players who remain at the club, Garner was given his debut by Solskjaer in 2019.
Now aged 20, Garner is performing well with Nottingham Forest.
It remains to be seen if he has a long-term first-team future with United.
Tahith Chong
A player who looked like his days with United were numbered, Chong was performing well with Birmingham City in the Championship before suffering a serious groin injury.
He's now back at United while he recovers from his injury, but could feature for the Blues again this season.
Hannibal Mejbri
A player who looks close to breaking into the first-team, Mejbri has made just one appearance so far, with Rangnick speaking on the Tunisian and having a plan for him going forward.
He made his debut under Solskjaer on the last day of the 2020/21 season.
