The Manchester United player that reminds Solskjaer of himself

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says that Daniel James' arrival at Manchester United reminds him of his own time at the club.

Wales international James has defied expectations since his move from Swansea in the summer and has already established himself as a key figure under the Norwegian manager.

James netted a late strike on his debut for United before adding subsequent strikes in matches against Crystal Palace and Southampton.

In the world of modern football the 21-year-old's £15million summer move already looks to represent a bargain buy, similar to the situation which Solskjaer found himself in 23 years ago.

Solskjaer signed for United for a bargain fee of £1.5m back in 1996, and when asked if it was possible to sign someone like that in the modern market, the United manager referenced summer signing James as evidence that it is.

"I think we've shown with Dan James," he told Sky Sports. "The price we had to pay for him wasn't massive, and he's shown there is talent out there, if you scout them well enough and recruit the right personalities, you don't have to pay over the odds.

"Of course. The money that's involved in football now is different, but I'm delighted with the three we've signed. I think they've shown that we're doing a good job."
