The Manchester United change in training that is starting to pay off

Manchester United are seeing the rewards from some hard work on the training ground to improve the defence, according to Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw.

United drew 0-0 with Wolves on Saturday, and while the team were disappointed not to take three points at Old Trafford, the game represented their third clean sheet in a row.

In fact, since their FA Cup third round stalemate at Wolves at the start of January, United have kept six clean sheets in nine games.

Speaking after the Wolves game, left-back Luke Shaw admitted that United have made a conscious effort to improve in defence - especially in regards to defending set pieces.

"We speak about that a lot because sometimes we concede sloppy goals, especially from set pieces most of all," Shaw told MUTV.

"We've worked on that but I probably would have rather conceded and won the game 2-1 today. That's not the case, but it's nice to get clean sheets and we need to be scoring goals [too]."

Shaw's sentiments were echoed by Victor Lindelof, who shed some more light on the work carried out on the training pitch in relation to his partnership with new club captain Harry Maguire.

"The more games you play together the easier it gets," Lindelof said. "He's a fantastic player and we train every day and play a lot of games now so for every game we play we get better and better.

"Hopefully we can keep improving, get to know each other even more and get more clean sheets together.

"Obviously we wanted to win and get the three points so it's frustrating but overall I think we controlled the game well and they didn't create a lot of chances.

"We kept another clean sheet so that's a positive thing to take with us but we want to create a little bit more upfront and to score a goal. It is what it is."
