The Manchester neighbourhood among "hottest" postcodes to live in 2022

It is the Manchester neighbourhood constantly finding its way into lists of the coolest places in the world - and now Ancoats has done it again named as one of the UK's "hottest" postcodes according to The Sunday Times.

In a list compiled by the national newspaper, the M4 postcode for Ancoats is ranked among the coolest places you could possibly move to right now, hailed specifically as one "for the party crew".

In the glowing write up about the regenerated district, the newspaper points to Ancoats-based restaurant Mana winning the city's first Michelin Star in decades, praising its Nordic-inspired dining.

But it also celebrates Rudy's pizza and the Hip Hop Chip Shop, and the Ancoats General Store as "the most unusual corner shop in the north" where you can buy bread and milk as well as chat at the bar.

The award-winning Jane Eyre bar and restaurant also gets a mention, while Blossom Street Social is hailed as the place to head for "world-class wine and vinyl decks".

Ancoats is joined on the list of the 12 "coolest postcodes" to know right now by the likes of BN1 in Brighton, SA3 for Mumbles in Swansea, NE67 for Beadnell in Northumberland and IV26 for Tanera Mor in The Inner Hebrides.

The Times article says that "the Cotswolds and Cornwall are over" and that these are the hip new postcodes millennials might like to consider right now.

In October Ancoats was named one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world by Time Out magazine, which praised its "almost cliched blend of past and present which is visible on every street."

The district has seen a huge boom in residents in recent years with towering new apartment blocks, alongside the conversions of the area's historic cotton mills into plush new homes.

Meanwhile the L39 postcode for Aughton in Lancashire got a nod from the Sunday Times as the neighbourhood "for serious foodies", thanks in no small part to Mark Birchall's two Michelin-starred restaurant Moor Hall.

The Sunday Times rates it "officially England's hottest gourmet destination" while it also gives nods to the Freemasons at Wiswell, the Inn at Whitewell and Northcote at Langho - all restaurants and pubs based in Lancashire but not in the L39 postcode.
