The Manchester football team who are the best in England

Although United’s performances have left many fans incandescent this season, there is another Manchester football team who’ve brought success to The Cliff.

That’s because the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service’s men’s football team have won the English cup. They defeated the London Fire Brigade at United’s former training ground in Salford yesterday (April 21).

A solitary second-half goal was enough for the Manchester side to take the crown in the Broughton sunshine. In attendance at the game was the newly-formed GMFRS women’s team.

Following the win, the Service’s Chief Fire Officer, Dave Russel, congratulated the squad. “GMFRS winners of the ‘English Cup Final’,” he tweeted.

“A cracking match, two really good, well matched teams..well done to both managers, coaching staff and all the players. A credit to the fire service.”

Despite suffering the loss, the team from the capital were magnanimous in defeat, adding: “Congratulations to GMFRS on winning the FIRESPORTUK football English Open age cup final, and to our hosts Manchester United for allowing us to play at the Cliff Training ground.”
