The man who has turned Stokes Croft into his personal ‘cat walk’

Anyone who has driven down Gloucester Road over the last couple of months will have spotted the Acid House lover, dancing on the junction of Turbo Island handing out leaflets.

Simon Farris, who describes himself as a born again Christian, is a self-published author and sells jewellery outside the Canteen in Bristol.

Living just two minutes from Stokes Croft - a cultural hub and a haven for music and artistic expression - he demonstrates his creative dance style to Acid House music such as tracks produced by Paul Oakenfold.

Mr Farris began showcasing his energetic moves at the busy Bristol junction just a few months ago.

After a life-time of mental health issues, Mr Farris told Bristol Live he dances as a way of meeting new people and passing out his church leaflets.

"It is a difficult time for me at the moment, so I just started dancing and it has opened up the whole community to me."

"Everyone has started saying hello to me and all the cool people join in."

Referring to Stokes Croft as his 'cat walk', the 52 year old often takes centre stage at different times of the day.

"People absolutely love it, they would honk their horns, take pictures and even dance with me - it’s just phenomenal," he added.

He described a moment where an ambulance pulled over to check if he was okay.

"I simply placed my headset to her ears and she immediately realised that I was not off my head - I was just into my emotions," he laughed.
