The Man United dressing room verdict on Erik Lamela for his role in Anthony Martial red card

Manchester United stars thought Erik Lamela was a 'disgrace' for his actions in Tottenham's 6-1 win at Old Trafford.

Spurs made easy work of Ole Gunnar Solksjaer's men in their thumping of Man United before the international break.

But they were helped, in part, by an arguably favourable decision to send off Anthony Martial after he reacted to Erik Lamela pushing his arm towards his face.

The defining part of the incident was, perhaps, that Lamela threw himself to the ground, while Martial did not.

And the Tottenham star's reaction was dubbed 'disgraceful' by players inside the Manchester United dressing room.

A report from The Athletic reveals the inside story from the Man United dressing room from the 6-1 defeat as told by an unnamed source from behind the scenes.

“The players thought he was a disgrace,” the insider said of the Lamela incident.

The source added: “At half-time, the United players all knew Lamela had faked it. They were angry. Jose did a masterstroke to take him out.”

At the time of the incident, Spurs were only 2-1 up having initially gone behind, but they went on to score four more, rounding off their biggest ever win at Old Trafford.
