Byron Hayward, the man heavily touted as Wales' new defence coach, has travelled to Argentina to work with the Wales under-20s side at the World Rugby U20 Championship.
The 50-year-old is expected to be confirmed as the final piece of Wayne Pivac's coaching staff when he takes over as Wales boss after the Rugby World Cup.
His official appointment as Wales defence coach is yet to take place but his exit from the Scarlets has been formalised , with the region's new head coach, Brad Mooar, bringing defence guru Glenn Delaney on board.
In the meantime, Hayward linked up with the Wales under-20s squad ahead of their trip to South America for the junior global showpiece.
A late reshuffle saw him join Gareth Williams' coaching staff for the tournament after Dai Flanagan pulled out to fully prepare for his promotion to Scarlets attack coach next season.
Hayward, who is familiar with the setup after taking charge of the age grade side between 2013 and 2014, has stepped in to fill the void left by Flanagan.
On the face of it, replacing a specialist attack coach with a defence coach isn't like-for-like, but it's thought Hayward's familiarity with the setup means he will be able to fulfil the role.
The former international is expected to be named as Wales' incoming defence coach in the coming weeks.
