The Man Facing Charges Over Brittany Higgins’ Alleged Assault Intends To Plead Not Guilty

The 26-year-old man set to be charged over the alleged sexual assault of former Liberal staffer Brittany Higgins inside Parliament House said he will defend the allegations made against him.

In a statement obtained by News.com.au, the man’s lawyer John Korn said the man rejects he had sex with Brittany Higgins when they returned to the office after midnight in March 2019.

“My client absolutely and unequivocally denies that any form of sexual activity took place at all,’’ Korn said.

“He will defend the charge.”

On Friday afternoon, the Australian Federal Police announced that the Queensland man will face court in September over one charge of sexual intercourse without consent (which carries a maximum penalty of 12 years in jail).

“Detectives from ACT Policing’s Criminal Investigations – Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Team, the specialist team dedicated to investigating sexual assaults in the ACT, first received a report in April 2019,” the AFP said in a statement.

“The investigation remained open and in February 2021 a formal complaint was made.

“Detectives have since spoken to a number of witnesses and collected evidence as part of the investigation.”

The man will appear before the ACT Magistrates Court on September 16, 2021.
