The Man City trio that can re-ignite the Blues' season

Riyad Mahrez believes that Manchester City’s devastating right-sided trio can make a difference in the rest of the season.

The Algeria international teamed up with Kevin De Bruyne and Kyle Walker to ravage the Leicester left flank and secure for the Blues.

De Bruyne and Mahrez were sensational and Walker was a very good support act as City closed the gap to second place to just one point.

The Belgium international pushed high to occupy defenders Caglar Soyuncu and Ben Chilwell, and open up space which was fully exploited by Mahrez, in a tactical masterstroke from Pep Guardiola.

That brought the equalising goal, and De Bruyne’s ability to thrust through the channels saw him set up Gabriel Jesus for the killer third goal.

Mahrez reckons that the Blues’ triangle down the right – whether it has him or Bernardo Silva in the wide role – is a powerful weapon.

Those three have teamed up this season in eight games, and City have won seven and drawn one - the 2-2 at Newcastle - scoring 33 goals and conceding just five.

“Kevin is the type of player who has a lot of quality, who helps us with a lot of things,” he said. “He was very good and we had a good partnership with him and Kyle.

“When we play together we will always make the difference. When Bernardo plays on the right with Kevin, we play good as well. It’s easy to have partnerships with good players – that’s why we are here.”

City put on one of their best attacking displays of the season to cut Liverpool’s lead at the top of the table to 11 points, as they are away playing in the World Club Championship.

And Mahrez thinks the confidence and strength is back for the Blues as they move into a hectic Christmas schedule.

“Even when they scored we were very confident,” he said. “It was frustrating because you control the game very well and they have one chance and score.

“We created chances and knew we would score, and that’s what we did. We won’t always win 3-0 or 4-0. Sometimes other teams score first and it’s good to have a reaction, like we had against Leicester.

“Most important is to try to win every game, which we always do. We went through a difficult moment but big teams never give up and try to come back. That’s what we did against Chelsea and against Leicester.

“We controlled the game from the beginning. They scored in our best moment but we wee confident and relaxed because we created a lot of chances and were in control.

“It was one of our best performances of the season, because we had a lot of attacking. When we play like that, it is difficult for the opponent.”
