The Man City player preparing for the most important game of his career against England

Amid the many Manchester City players preparing to represent their countries this week, perhaps the most nervous will be young Aro Muric.

The goalkeeper has had a mixed start to life on loan at Nottingham Forest in his first experience of fighting for the number one spot.

Muric stepped in well last season in City's Carabao Cup triumph, including his heroics in the penalty shoot-out win over Leicester. It was a remarkable turnaround for the youngster who started 2018/19 on loan at NAC Breda before City recalled him to replace the injured Claudio Bravo.

This season, Muric has gone to the Championship in search of regular football, and has recovered following a difficult debut that saw him make two costly errors in a 2-1 defeat.

The 20-year-old kept his place for the next three games as Forest went unbeaten, but he has since found himself on the bench for three matches in succession before the international break.

Now, Muric's attentions turn to the Euro 2020 qualifying Group A, as he is set to begin in goal for Kosovo in two crucial games with the Czech Republic and England.

Kosovo sit third behind both of their upcoming opponents after three games, knowing some good results could put them in line for a shock qualification to next summer's championships.

Muric has started all three of his country's group games so far, so will be hoping to continue this week. But there is added pressure given the magnitude of Kosovo's fixtures.

When he arrives at Southampton's St Mary's next Tuesday, it will arguably be the biggest game of his fledgling career so far against an England team boasting old and new City teammates in Jadon Sancho and Raheem Sterling

When it comes to international level, Muric is not the understudy anymore, and he will not have faced a better attack in a competitive setting - although his experience at City training could come in useful.

If he can succeed in keeping Sterling, Sancho and Harry Kane out on Tuesday, it could be the biggest signal yet he is ready for the big stage.

Pep Guardiola will be watching with interest.
