The make-up artist crowned best in Wales who works from a little room in her Merthyr home

Meet the woman who has just been crowned the best make-up artist in Wales, and she works from a little room at her home in Merthyr Tydfil.

Leanne Warren Hester, 44, has recently been named Make-Up Artist of the Year at the Welsh Hair and Beauty Awards, but she never imagined this would've happened as little as five years ago.

It was then she decided to open her own business, under Leanne Warren Hester MUA, after working as a make-up artist for Clinique for the best part of 10 years.

But, as more customers started to ask her if she could do their make-up for events and weddings, she decided it was time to take the plunge and start her own little beauty empire.

A few years down the line and she's been crowned the best in Wales, and she said it's been a massive boost after having to close for so long during lockdown.

Leanne said: "After not working for so long, and the threat of lockdowns, it's really lovely. There are so many good make-up artists it's just been so lovely - it was a real shock."

Speaking about business since restrictions have eased in Wales, Leanne added: "To be honest I'm busier than ever, which I'm really grateful for.

"More people are going out and a lot of weddings are booked in. I still have a few weddings left before Christmas, and people are treating themselves going out.

"I've built up many regular clients and I'm so grateful for those, but I'm also having a lot of new clients since things have opened up, so it's been lovely."

One reason why Leanne may be becoming so popular is because throughout lockdown she started to make TikTik videos, and it's safe to say that they have since gone viral.

The make-up artist started making them as a bit of fun to inspire clients throughout the pandemic, but she's since attracted seven million people to her page.

"It's for tutorials and to show people different products," Leanne explained.

"A lot of people my age have started to use make-up and become interested in skin care and things like that. I wasn't expecting it to take off - it's amazing.

"After a rubbish couple of years, it's coming lovely."

Leanne also used lockdown to make some improvements to her little salon at home. This included brightening the space up a little more, and developing a side entrance so people don't have to walk through the house to visit the make-up chair.

She used the time to make the salon a safe and comfortable environment, and now people are desperate to get a seat and have their faces painted by the best in Wales.

Today the room is looking absolutely incredible with its feminine floral decor, modern feel and drawers full of beauty essentials that every girl dreams of being pampered with.

And if you're visiting ahead of the festive season then you're in for a treat, as the entrance has recently been turned into Candy Cane Lane ahead of the festive season.

Christmas magic has definitely landed in Merthyr, and Leanne is on hand to add a bit of extra sparkle to your festive nights out.

Leanne said: "We have done it a little bit at a time.

"We have tried to make it a bit of a happy place. My happy place."
