The major impact Sheffield United have had on Pep Guardiola and Man City

Pep Guardiola says Chris Wilder and Sheffield United have made him realise how he can improve at Manchester City .

The Blades have done tremendously well in their first campaign back in the Premier League, currently sitting just one point off fifth-placed United after 23 games.

Despite suffering a 2-0 defeat at the Etihad last month - their first away defeat in nearly a year - the league newcomers have equipped themselves well against the top teams in the division and face a City team on Tuesday night that showed more vulnerability in their 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace.

Guardiola has been so taken with what he has seen from Sheffield United that he singled them out for unique praise ahead of the second league meeting between the sides.

"I'm incredibly impressed," he began.

"When people say if you can improve watching other games and other teams and other managers, this is the one. I have never seen some of the movements that they are doing.

"There’s a reason why they are in the position they are, we saw it here a few weeks ago and suffered. I'm really impressed.

"I admire how they play and how they are doing, the same manager and a high percentage of the same players from League One and the Championship and now in the Premier League. I like it.

"As a manager you see some teams that make you think you can improve and this is the one.
