Marjorie Taylor Greene’s retirement comes in the wake of her feud with Donald Trump which has seen her tone down her more aggressive rhetoric, instead preaching for unity. But of course, we all know who Marj is so it’s only natural to question her sincerity and ask whether she’s only retiring to save her own skin, that’s what Adam Kinzinger thinks anyway.
In a post on X, Kinzinger pointed out the awfully convenient timing of Greene’s retirement date. “MTG is retiring JUST IN TIME to get a pension (when she’s 60) and keep her employer funded TSP.” he states.
Kinzinger also draws attention to the fact that if the Georgia Rep. retired today, she would get neither of those things as it requires five years of congressional service to take effect. Greene was sworn in in January, 2021, and has announced she will retire January 5, 2026, taking her just past that milestone.

He claimed that five years was the “magic number,” required to receive that money which calls into question Greene’s motives.
So Marjorie Taylor Greene is just looking out for herself?
This completely reframes Greene’s decision to retire. Is it possible she isn’t stepping down because she’s suddenly grown a conscience and can no longer support MAGA, but rather she’s in too deep and is trying to secure a nice pay day for herself? That sounds much more like the Marjorie Taylor Greene we’ve all come to know.
Greene’s retirement date is just two days after her federal pension becomes fully vested according to an article from the Daily Mail. She’ll have to wait until she’s 62 to receive the pension and it’s unclear exactly how much she will receive, but it seems like a rather cynical move which has prompted criticism from both Republicans and Democrats alike.
Long time foe of Greene’s, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, argued the Republican Rep’s departure was scheduled to secure her financial gains. Even Laura Loomer suggested that the pension likely played a factor in Greene’s decision as she stated, “It’s all about the money for her. Always has been.”
Not everyone agrees
While Marjorie has burned many bridges in the last few months, there were still a few willing to stick up for her. Some pointed out that her earnings from the pension wouldn’t really amount to much with a few doing the maths on X and coming to the conclusion she would earn less than $9k a year.
Whatever the case, it seems we’ll be saying goodbye once and for all to Greene come January 5. I would say we’ll miss her but that would be a bald-faced lie.
