The Luton decision that left Swansea City's Steve Cooper fuming as he lauds Andre Ayew's 'fantastic knack'

Steve Cooper heaped praise on match-winner Andre Ayew whose 10th goal of the campaign earned Swansea City a 1-0 win over Luton Town.

The Ghana international at Kenilworth Road to reach double figures for the season.

Victory lifted the Swans back into the top six, with Cooper's men going into Christmas having claimed seven of the last nine league points on offer.

And the Swansea head coach felt his side thoroughly deserved all three points in Bedfordshire, adding that Ayew's experience was vital against Graeme Jones' troops.

"It's an easy finish, but you've got to be there to do that," he said.

"Andre's got a fantastic knack of being in the right place to score all types of goals.

"I'm just glad he was there today to nod it in. He's showing his experience and know-how game in, game out.

"It was a well-earned victory, I thought.

"I thought we were more than good for the three points because these games are so tight in the Championship.

"I thought we controlled the game from start to finish. This is a ground where the players and supporters have been used to winning and that always gives them a chance.

"I thought we handled coming here really well. It's three points, it's a clean sheet and I can only see positives coming out of the game."

Swansea created numerous chances against The Hatters, with Bersant Celina, Borja Baston and Tom Carroll - on his 100th appearance for the club - among those to have efforts at goal.

Just four minutes before Ayew struck what proved to be the winner, George Byers was booked by referee David Webb for simulation in the box.

The decision left Cooper fuming, with the Swansea head coach stating it was a "stonewall penalty".

"We've seen the decision on the penalty back," he said.

"Not only is it an absolutely stonewall penalty, but George gets a booking.

"With him being a midfield player he can quite easily pick up yellow cards and get a suspension down the line when he shouldn't, so I'm disappointed to be fair."

Swansea return to action against Brentford at Griffin Park on Boxing Day.
