The lovely historic bridge which has been swept away by Storm Ciara

A historic and popular bridge has been washed away by Storm Ciara.

The Miners Bridge in Betws-y-Coed runs over a tributary of the River Conwy.

It is popular with tourists and the spot has been a fording sport for the river for over a millenia.

The Miners’ Bridge at the north of the village is where the Romans most likely crossed the River Llugwy. It was later used by the quarrymen to reach the mines of the Gwydyr forest.

Many parts of Wales have been hit by flooding and the torrents appear to have washed the wooded bridge away.

A flood warning is in place along the River Conwy, with Natural Resources Wales warning that flooding is very likely along the stretch.

The latest measurements from the area show the river is currently near record levels.

Eyewitness Karen Pugh said the bridge had been washed away down the river.
