The lost world of Belleisle is revealed

The interior of Belleisle House was fitting for the glorious parkland in which it stood.

These images were taken by our staff photographer Euan McCall, who was invited in by developer John Campbell when he bought the building from South Ayrshire Council in 2012.

Prior to that the council had retained ownership, letting the building for many years to hotel operators.

The pictures show the staircase, grand reception with ornate fire surround and the lavish interior of what would become the Fontainebleau Restaurant, which was modelled on the Paris establishment of the same name.

Nothing remains of the inside.

The hand-carved fireplace had been left in position because it may have been damaged on removal.
