The Los Angeles Kings’ 8-2 tweet about the Nationals could not have aged worse

The Nationals stunned the Dodgers in Wednesday’s Game 5 of the NLDS to reach the Washington franchise’s first NLCS, which was even more astonishing when you consider where the Nationals were after Game 3.

That Game 3 even had the Los Angeles Kings feeling cocky about their LA counterparts. If you go back to that sixth inning of Game 3, the Dodgers jumped to an 8-2 lead after scoring seven two-out runs in the inning. It was the kind of statement performance that could have put the Nationals away down 2-1 in the series, so the Kings joined in on the fun.

The Kings’ account tweeted an “8-2” pun at the Nationals’ Twitter account.

You really hate to see it.

Obviously, the Nationals’ rally to take the series should have been enough for that tweet to age poorly and receive the proper roasting from the internets. But the baseball and hockey gods weren’t quite done with their collective karmic humor.

On the same night that the Dodgers’ season came to an end, the Vancouver Canucks defeated the Kings, 8-2. Yes. That happened.

Just whoa.

To put that in perspective, the Kings have lost by an 8-2 scoreline just 12 times in the franchise’s history — this was the first time since 2011. NHL teams don’t just lose 8-2 on a regular basis. But somehow, the Kings managed to lose 8-2 just days after mocking the Nationals for trailing 8-2.

The Washington Capitals were quick to bring up that tweet after Wednesday’s results.

You really cannot make that up.
