Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings TV series has reportedly wrapped filming.
Production on the highly anticipated series began earlier this year in New Zealand, but was forced to come to a halt after just one month due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Filming was able to resume in September, with a picture shared by director JA Bayona on Tuesday (22 December) suggesting that the shoot had finished earlier this month.
The Spanish director, who is best known for films such as The Impossible and A Monster Calls, posted a picture of his bare feet to social media, captioning the post: “I have no words to thank this extraordinary land and its beautiful people for taking me in this last year and a half.
“My heart feels a little kiwi now and I can’t wait to be back.”
Lord of the Rings actor Jed Brophy, who starred in The Two Towers, commented: “You came here a Man and are leaving a Hobbit. It happens. And you will always be welcome back.”
In October, LOTR fans shared their dismay after a casting call was put out for the series reportedly asking for actors who were “comfortable with nudity”.
“I don't like this,” wrote one Twitter commenter. “Mind you I'm all for graphic content... But not Lord of the Rings. We had Game of Thrones to scratch that itch. We don't need graphic content anywhere near Tolkien.”
“Nope. This is not the spirit of LOTR,” another commented. “I loved GoT, but this is not Tolkien.”
The Lord of the Rings is expected to come to Prime Video in 2021.
