The Lord Mayor's Hot Air Balloon Regatta has been cancelled

Since 2015, the city's top 'grammers, amateur photographers and the odd tourist have descended on to the banks of the River Thames to get a glimpse of the Lord Mayor's Hot Air Balloon Regatta. Now, for the fifth time this year, it has been cancelled.

The annual event creates awareness for the money the city and the City of London Corporation raise for charities and good causes throughout London and beyond.

Cancelled for various reasons – due to heady winds or no wind at all – it's just been announced that the scheduled regatta that was due to take place this Sunday morning has been postponed until June 2019.

The reason? The Parks Team at Battersea Park have said that "the ground has retained a lot of moisture and is therefore too soft for vehicles to drive onto the grass".

A new date for the event will be set later this year after event organisers RICOH revealed that is highly unlikely for ground impressions to improve next weekend. Let's just hope it finally goes ahead.
