Good morning, it's Monday, March 7. Here's what you need to get going today.

One thing to know right now: Attempts to evacuate Mariupol have failed

Here's the lowdown:

• The second attempt to get people out of the besieged Ukrainian port city had to be abandoned as shelling continued
• Around 200,000 people are trying to get out, with each side blaming the other for breaking the ceasefire

• The Red Cross (there to get people out) criticised both sides for not arriving at clear enough arrangements for setting out the humanitarian corridor to allow residents to flee the city
• Mariupol Mayor Vadym Boichenko said his main priority was to help people escape. Here's what he said:

Also overnight:

• More than 3,500 people were detained at anti-war protests in Russia. Russia's interior ministry said 1,700 people had been detained in Moscow, 750 in St Petersburg and 1,061 in other cities.
• And US Secretary of State Antony Blinken says reports of Russia targeting civilians are "very credible". He told CNN:

One thing you’ll be hearing about today: There's more rain coming to flood-hit areas

• Towns already flooded could be further impacted by heavy rain forecast for the east coast of New South Wales today
• Parts of Sydney, the Mid North Coast, Hunter, Illawarra, South Coast, and  Tablelands are on alert, with rain totals of up 120 millimetres possible
• The SES says further evacuations are likely in the coming days

• Meanwhile in Queensland, a man has been found dead after his car was swept away in floodwaters in the South Burnett region. A woman also in the car managed to escape and cling to a tree before scrambling to safety

• NSW's Port Kembla is emerging as the most likely site of a new base for Australia's future nuclear-powered submarine fleet, the ABC understands

• Australian officials in Thailand hope to get more information later today about when the body of Shane Warne can be returned to his family. Doctors in Thailand began an autopsy on Sunday but it's not yet clear if their examination has been finished

The news Australia is searching for

• Peshawar mosque: An Islamic State affiliate has claimed the deadly attack that killed 63 and wounded nearly 200. Hundreds of Shiite Muslims rallied in Peshawar on Sunday to protest against the attack
• Tornado Iowa: Seven people were killed, including two children, when several tornadoes swept through central Iowa, damaging buildings and knocking down trees and power lines

One more thing: A massive soccer brawl broke out in Mexico

The match was between Queretaro and Atlas from Guadalajara but it only made it to the 62nd minute before multiple fights broke out in the stands:

Fans spilled onto the field where the running battles continued. Some people were armed with chairs and metal bars.

Graphic videos and photos circulated on social networks appeared to show fans motionless on the ground, in some cases stripped naked and covered with blood.

Authorities said 22 people were injured and three of those were critical.
