The long history of Ladybird parodies

Pastiches of Ladybird’s much-loved style are nothing new (Letters, 19 May). Simon Spicer’s greeting cards and Shopping on the Internet are but two more recent examples, and the earliest spoof we’ve seen (by one of the original artists, Harry Wingfield) dates from 1960. The relationship between our books and the Peter-and-Jane-based art project We Go to the Gallery (2014) is coincidence, just as the relationship between it and Jon Bentley’s excellent art project Peter and Jane: The Lost Episodes (2012-13) presumably is.
