The long-gone shops we miss from Glasgow's high street

Kids today don't know how lucky they have it.

While they perfect their Fenty eyeliner flick and pose up a storm in their latest ASOS wares, we were lucky if we got one of the coveted Gap hoodies (in turquoise to match our traintracks) handed down from our big sis.

Back in the 90s and 00s, fast fashion meant a quick dash to the shops with your mum while listening to on your Walkman.

There were no celebrity collabs, flash sales, Instagram influencers or online ordering. When we wanted to shop, we really had to do the leg work.

It was a simpler time. The belts were low slung, the jeans hung even lower and Marissa Cooper and Sienna Miller were our style queens.

But what other long-gone shops to you miss from Glasgow's high street?  See if you can spot any of your favourites below.

Nash

Not strictly a fashion store, but this stationery shop in Miller Street was THE place to go if you were a teen in Glasgow. We can practically smell the gel pens under our nose night now...

Razzle Dazzle

This place was a one stop hot shop for everything we ever wanted as a teen. We practically cried when the shop on Sauchiehall Street closed down. Luckily, our tears dried fairly quickly when they replaced it with State of Independence - another teen haven. Honestly, we probably should have paid digs to this property we were in it so often.

Internacionale

If you didn't spend all your time and money at Internacionale on Argyle Street - what were you doing?! This store had it all...plasticy heels for £3, clear mascara for £1 and jewellery that would turn our ears green just by looking at it. Our favourite though? The tiny badges covered with inexplicable slogans like 'Devil Child' and 'Model in Waiting'.  Extra points if you pinned yours all the way down your crossbody bag strap like an overenthusiastic Girl Guide. And don't even get us started on the homeware brand Au Natruale...

Sock Shop

Why were we so obsessed with spending our pocket money on socks? Our love for this place was as passionate as it was bizarre. Do you remember the striped knee-high socks that went on your foot like a glove? Thank god some trends do die out.

Jane Norman

You were nobody until you .

Bay Trading

This one is very all the cool girls out there, the ones that probably had an older sister or a laidback mum. Most of the dresses we bought there wouldn't look out of place on the high street today - spaghetti straps, floral patterns and thigh-skimming hem lines. Kids, take note, this is where we bagged our club looks before ASOS was born. The communal changing area was weird though...

Tammy Girl

The god tier of tween clothes shops. It was cool and edgy and undoubtedly kick-started our teenage obsession with side fringes, emo bands, and MySpace. Their tops weren't just cropped, they were practically invisible. Their jeans weren't just jeans, they were wide-legged, floor scruffing, denim acts of rebellion - complete with chains to attach your wallet to. In short, this is where all our angsty fashion fantasies came to life.

Kylie at M&Co

Before there was Kylie Jenner, there was Kylie at M&Co. This place was slightly more mum-friendly than the risky looks at Tammy Girl Morgan and Jane Norman- and therefore more likely to actually end up in your wardrobe.  Kylie was where we nagged our parents to take us for cool slogan tshirts for our school disco each year. Shame our tuck shop gobstoppers had a longer life span than these 'cotton' tees.
