
Crime statistics released by the Metropolitan Police have been used to determine which London boroughs have the highest crime rates in the first six months of 2025.
The data covers all types of crime from the start of the year, and reveals that there have been a total of 455,768 offences recorded by the police in this period.
Theft was the most commonly recorded crime, with 148,559 offences, followed by violence against a person with 119,721 incidences.
In third place was vehicle offences - 43,929- followed by arson and criminal damage with 27,643 incidents logged.
There were also 23,687 reports of burglary to police and 13,518 reports of sexual offences in the capital over the six month period.
The data states this number is down by 0.1 per cent from the previous same time period a year ago. Crime for June was also down from May by 0.6 per cent.
These are the five London boroughs with the highest number of crimes over that period:
1. Westminster

A tourist hotspot, this area sees a lot of footfall which could be the reason for taking top spot.
Westminster has seen 41,639 incidents of crime since January with the common crime being theft with 25,997 incidents.
Violence was next on the list with 5,346.
There were also 1,123 drug offences in this time and 1,650 cases of robbery.
2. Camden

Camden is another area frequently visited by tourists.
This area saw the second highest level of crime in London for the first half of the year, with 20,333 incidents.
The most commonly reported offence in the area was theft with 10,160 reports, as well as 3,481 incidents of violence and 481 reports of sexual assault.
3. Newham

Newham is in third spot - noting 19,789 incidents of crime.
Violence against a person was recorded at 4,943 incidents and there were 1,407 drug offences in the area. There were also 848 incidents of robbery, 553 sexual offences and 1,873 vehicle offences in the area - according to police data.
4. Southwark
Heading south of the river, Southwark is in fourth spot with 19,698 reports of crime since January.
Again, the most common crime reported was theft with 7,881 reports. There were also 4,363 reports of violence against a person in that time, 1,012 drug offences, 964 public order offences and 955 reports of arson and criminal damage.
5. Lambeth

Lambeth is the fifth most criminally active borough, according to the data, with 18,578 crime incidents. June saw more criminal than May - with the figure up 1.3 per cent.
Theft again was the most commonly reported crime, closely followed by violence against a person with 6,847 reports.
There were also 4,618 incidents of violence against a person, 1,392 vehicle incidents, 1,100 cases of arson or criminal damage, 820 cases of robbery and 1,014 public order offences in the area since the start of the year.
