The locations of all the confirmed coronavirus cases in Wales as total climbs to 136

Twelve new cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed in Wales on Tuesday (March 17), according to Public Health Wales (PHW).

This brings the total number of cases in the country 136.

Dr Giri Shankar, Incident Director for the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak response at Public Health Wales, warned that the number of cases could be higher than is actually being reported.

He said: “As we are currently only testing within hospitals, this is likely to underestimate the true number of cases."

How the new cases were acquired has not been revealed.

Across the UK, supermarkets have issued a plea to shoppers not to panic buy, saying that their distribution chains are well stocked.

Schools in Wales are preparing to close, with teachers getting ready materials that pupils can access at home, although they are waiting for a decision from the Welsh government before they shut. Closures could last months.

The Government has also warned against all non-essential travel worldwide for the next 30 days.

The measure is in line with those introduced by the Government on Monday, which encourages the public to avoid large social gatherings, pubs, cinemas and other social events.
