The Liverpool transfer theory to delight Chelsea over signing Jadon Sancho this summer

Jadon Sancho is likely to be one of the most talked about transfer stories of the upcoming summer window.

The England international has impressed for both club and country this season, with reports suggesting that the 19-year-old is set for a summer transfer away from Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season.

Chelsea have been heavily linked with Sancho in recent months, with Manchester City and Liverpool also said to be among the clubs interested in taking the teenager.

But there is one previous example of a transfer that could suggest that a move to Chelsea could be the most likely option for Sancho in the summer.

As pointed out by Liverpool.com, Reds' defender Virgil Van Dijk had a number of clubs, including Chelsea, fighting for his signature before his move to Liverpool in January 2018.

However, instead of moving to solidify Chelsea or Manchester City's teams as solid Premier League title challengers, Van Dijk's move to ambitious Liverpool proved to be a vital piece of the puzzle to a team that was building to the level they are at now.

However, Jurgen Klopp's men now find themselves in a different situation when it comes to Sancho's future, with Liverpool now being the established side challenging for Premier League and Champions League titles.

The teenager will have to make a similar decision to the one Van Dijk made, does he add to the strength of the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City, or become a key part of the puzzle for the ambition of Frank Lampard at Chelsea?

One thing that is for sure is that whoever does sign Sancho in the summer will still have to part with a significant amount of money.
