The Liverpool transfer question Xherdan Shaqiri's injury leaves Jurgen Klopp wrestling with

Xherdan Shaqiri’s injury during international duty has currently left Liverpool a forward down for the pre-season programme.

The 27-year-old picked up a calf tear during Switzerland’s UEFA Nations League clash with England on June 9.

The versatile Swiss international reported back for duty at Melwood on Monday and was checked over by the club's medical staff upon his return to the West Derby complex.

"Shaq is still injured from the national team and it will take a while until he is in again," Jurgen Klopp said on Tuesday.

"He has a tear in his calf, so he will not be involved for a while."

It is now thought that Shaqiri will prioritise his recovery and not travel to America for the tour that starts next week.

During our Blood Red Midweek Debate , Paul Gorst suggests that Liverpool should be looking for another forward in the market, while Sean Bradbury believes Jurgen Klopp will struggle to find another player as good as Shaqiri for the same price.

Paul argues the Reds are threadbare up top and poses a wider problem long term, while Sean believes it is a chance for some of the Reds' younger players to make an impact pre-season

Should Liverpool buy or promote from within after Shaqiri's injury?  Watch the full debate between Paul and Sean in the video above and send your thoughts on the subject to @LivEchoLFC, @ptgorst or @seanbrad2
