The Liverpool star rated more valuable than Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Paulo Dybala of Juventus

Liverpool are currently fighting for the Premier League title and have some of the most talented players on the planet.

But who is Liverpool’s most prized asset and how do they compare with stars around Europe?

The boffins at CIES Football Observatory have attempted to answer those questions by revealing the most expensive players by club in Europe’s top five leagues.

It’s not just about form, performances in previous years and transfer fees paid that dictate a player’s current value – it’s also their age.

So there is no wonder that some of the most valuable players across Europe’s top five leagues are for the majority aged 25 or younger. The one exception is, of course, Lionel Messi.

Serie A’s most expensive talent is Juventus’ Paulo Dybala at €142m (£121m), Ligue 1 has Kylian Mbappe at €228m (£194m), while Lionel Messi heads up the La Liga still valued at €171m (£146m) despite being 31.

Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho is the Bundesliga’s most prized asset at €148m (£126m) and Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane leads the way at €198m (£169m) in the Premier League.

But there is one Liverpool player who is rated as more valuable than Dybala, Messi and Sancho – and that’s Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian hasn't scored in his last eight games but that hasn’t hindered his lofty transfer value.

The mistake Jurgen Klopp knows Liverpool won't make again in Premier League title race with Man City

Salah is still only 26 and fired in 32 Premier League goals as recently as last season. And his return of 20 goals in all competitions this season means the forward is calculated to be worth €185m (£158m).

It’s highly unlikely the majority of these aforementioned players move in the summer transfer window but if any of them do, the buyers will certainly have to break the bank.
