The Liverpool star competing at the Women's World Cup

T he Women’s 2019 World Cup in France is here with the tournament poised to be the best we have ever seen.

One player will be representing the Red half of Merseyside with eyes on the most prestigious trophy in the game.

Here is a profile of Liverpool star Christie Murray who is representing Scotland over in France this month.

Christie Murray

Nation: Scotland

Position: Midfielder/Forward

Age: 29

International squad number: 16

Christie Murray has made 62 appearances and scored four goals for Scotland since her senior debut in 2010.

From then on Scotland would count on Murray to score match winning goals from midfield.

Three of Murray’s four goals have come in the last five minutes of a game - all of which secured a win.

Liverpool’s number 10 has featured in 19 out of 20 Women Super League fixtures which saw the Reds finish ten points clear of Merseyside rivals Everton.

Prior to joining Liverpool, Murray had stints at Glasgow City, Celtic and Arsenal.

It was at Glasgow City where she discovered her ruthless eye for goal.

The 29-year-old scored 24 goals in 29 appearances as a striker for Glasgow between 2011 and 2013 - her highest goal tally for one club.

The forward won nine trophies in her career, eight of which were with Glasgow City over three seasons.

However, it was also in the UEFA Champions League where Murray earned her stripes.

She helped Glasgow reach the round of 16 in 2012, but Shelley Kerr’s Arsenal stood in their way.

Kerr was more than impressed with the fellow Scot and consequently signed her in January 2014 for the Gunners.

A clear favourite of the now Scottish manager, it is no surprise that the pair have joined forces once again in search of international glory.
