The Liverpool press Newcastle United must replicate against Leicester City

Newcastle United need to repeat the tactics which earned them a draw against Liverpool for their upcoming fixture with Leicester City.

That's the view of Magpies full-back Emil Krafth, who has urged his team-mates to force interceptions higher up the pitch and break on the visitors on Sunday.

United arrested a poor run of results and performances with a goalless draw against league leaders Liverpool in their last outing.

The Premier League champions dominated possession and squandered several opportunities to open the scoring, but Steve Bruce's side showed more composure in possession and a greater attacking intent.

United have regularly been criticised this season for a perceived negative style of play and their struggles in the final third.

However, fans and pundits praised the Magpies for their improved display against Liverpool, and Krafth is keen for the hosts to repeat this performance.

When asked if the same tactics could work, Krafth told NUFC TV: "I think so. I think Leicester is a little bit like Liverpool, they want to have the ball and try to play.

"Like we did really well against Liverpool, we have to press a little higher and try to steal the ball a little higher up the pitch, and try to break them down from there."

Leicester City arrive on Tyneside on the back of consecutive draws in the festive period, having come from behind to secure a point against Manchester United and Crystal Palace.

Brendan Rodgers' side narrowly missed out on Champions League qualification last season, but find themselves in the hunt for European football once again this time around.

Krafth admits he has been impressed by the Foxes in recent campaigns, and believes they have established themselves as a top team in the division since their unexpected Premier League triumph in 2016.

He added: "I've been really impressed with how they work. Since they won the Premier League, they have been a top team since then.

"They play really good football and they're a hard team to beat. I'm really impressed with Leicester, and I think we have to put in a top performance to beat them."
