The Liverpool performances that bode well for Jurgen Klopp after the international break

Liverpool return to Premier League action against Tottenham on Sunday after the international break.

And while some players have enjoyed some well-earned time off during the 14-day period, others have been racking up the air miles on international duty.

It's the sort of thing that worries supporters, but in truth, Liverpool fans can rest easy.

Because Jurgen Klopp's side have hit the ground running on every occasion after returning from international football this season.

The most impressive result came back in September, when Liverpool defeated Tottenham 2-1 at Wembley to set down an early marker in the Premier League title race.

The Reds triumphed thanks to goals from Gini Wijnaldum and Roberto Firmino, and will hope to repeat the feat when they host Mauricio Pochettino's men on Sunday.

Even Klopp admitted that the result - and performance - was made all the more impressive because it came on the heels of an international break.

Jurgen Klopp delivers Trent Alexander-Arnold injury update ahead of Liverpool's visit from Tottenham

"Tottenham are one of the best teams in world football, and to come here and perform like that after the international break... I didn't take that for granted," he said.

"We were defensively good, offensively good, and the performance was better than the result. It was perhaps a bit nervy at the end but no problem. I have nothing to be critical about today.

"If you win games and you're not 100% with the performance it's still three points - I like that. It's a deserved result."

Liverpool had to work hard to beat Huddersfield 1-0 back in October after another spell of internationals.

Mohamed Salah scored his 50th goal in English football as Klopp admitted Liverpool's performance was "average" at the John Smith's Stadium.

Nevertheless, the Reds boss was delighted with the result.

And after the last international break in November, Liverpool recorded another impressive victory, beating Watford 3-0 at Vicarage Road.

Trent Alexander-Arnold scored a wonderful free-kick in between strikes from Salah and Firmino, as Liverpool survived Jordan Henderson's sending off to win.

It bodes well for the Reds going into Sunday's game against Tottenham, but if any Liverpool fans is hoping that Man City slip up at Fulham, they might have another thing coming.

City also boast a perfect record after internationals this season, beating Fulham, Burnley and most impressively, winning the Manchester derby 3-1 back in November.
