The Liverpool & Man City Champions League verdict that won't go down well with Chelsea and Spurs

The Champions League is back this week, with Chelsea and Tottenham both looking to continue in the same fashion as they enjoyed last season on the continent.

While Spurs did not lift the trophy in Madrid, reaching the final was still a huge achievement for Mauricio Pochettino's side and Chelsea can also hold their head high after winning the Europa League.

However, while they are still expected to advance into the latter stages of the competition, Sky Sports duo Phil Thompson and Matt Le Tissier are both overlooking the pair in their predictions for the season.

Speaking to SportingLife , the duo both suggested there could be another all-English final on the cards - but neither of the two London clubs will be involved.

"I would like to think Manchester City and Liverpool will be there. I also think PSG and Barcelona will make up the other two spots. I wouldn’t bet against Liverpool," ex-Liverpool ace Thompson said.

"It is the required knack of winning it. Real Madrid had the knowledge and know-how to get results and it seems to be that way."

Premier League 2019/20 - the top teams so far this season

Southampton favourite Le Tissier issued a similar prediction for the campaign, making it clear that he believes teams from the Premier League remain as the cream of the crop.

"I think we might be entering a phase of another country dominating, and I see this being the time for the English sides to reign supreme. It will only be a matter of time before Manchester City win it."
