The Liverpool bar serving up drinks in purple wheelie bins

Being served a cocktail in something other than a glass is no longer unusual, but one Liverpool bar has pushed this trend to new limits.

Backyard, on Wolstenholme Square, just off Parr Street, has been serving customers cocktails in miniature version of the city’s purple wheelie bins.

Kiera Reilly, of Backyard, told 2Chill : "When we was first coming up with the concept for Backyard we was thinking of fun and unique ways to serve our cocktails in things that you would typically find in a backyard for example flower pots.

"Then we had our lightbulb moment and thought of wheelie bins and even better - the iconic Liverpudlian purple wheelie bin which is very much famous in its own right.

"There is also a viral scouse video that goes “Where are ya? I’m in the entry!” (entry being an alleyway, a gunnel etc.) and it just makes the bin reference even more special to us."

Customers can order a variety of alcoholic slushie in their mini wheelie bins including margarita (tequila, Cointreau, lime and agave), Guava (gin, guava, mango, lime and sugar) or strawberry (rum, strawberry, lime and sugar).

Kiera said that although the initial reaction to them has been amazing, there has been 'one or a few thousand gone missing'.

Commenting on them, one visitor said she'd "be ready for the bin after all them", while another simply said "I need one immediately".

Another commented on the company's Instagram post demanding: "I WANT ONE!!"

Backyard opens daily from 4 to 11pm, except on the weekends where it is open from 12noon.
