Little known Liverpool beauty spot in the most unlikely of places

Liverpool is full of hidden gems and you can’t beat finding somewhere new to explore.

Thanks to our extensive coastline, there are plenty of scenic riverside walks - including one you might not have discovered before.

This picturesque beauty spot is a nature area with a waterfront trail, and can be found in the most unlikely of places.

Brimming with wild flowers and bracken, the site is a haven for wildlife including gold finches, swallows and different species of butterfly.

The rugged footpath closely follows the Mersey, with views over to the Wirral and the Welsh hills beyond.

Away from any busy main roads, it's the ideal place to escape the hustle and bustle and clear your head.

So where to find this little riverside beauty? The trail is located in the Speke Garston Coastal Reserve, just down from the retail park.

To reach it, head down Banks Road, by 24/7 Fitness Gym. This then leads onto Blackburne Street and down to a mini roundabout.

There you will find a small public car park, which is free to use, and from which you can directly access the trail, which leads down to the Liverpool Sailing Club.

Although slightly rugged underfoot, the walk is suitable for pushchairs and you're likely to have much of the place to yourself.
