The list of 35 chocolates and sweets the nation wants back on the shop shelves

We all have a few favourite treats from back in the day that are no longer sold in the supermarkets.

It might be a retro classic or an unusual flavour that you just can't forget.

And now in the latest survey, the nation has revealed which much-loved sweet and savoury snacks they think should make a comeback. 

Some dedicated fans have been tirelessly campaigning to resurrect their favourite confectioneries, including Tooty Frooties and Mars Delight. 

But sadly, to no avail.

Some calls have also been made to turn back the clock to rebrand products back to their original names, such as Starbursts formerly known as Opal Fruits.

But last month, Morrisons finally gave shoppers what they really wanted as they brought back the Marathon bar - now known as Snickers - for a limited time.

Gala Bingo asked more than 2,000 people which extinct products they miss the most, with Cadbury's Wispa Mint from 1995 topping the poll.

These are the top three choices, along with the other 32 that snackers can't bear be without.

1. Wispa Mint

An aerated milk chocolate bar with a mint layer.

Launched 1995, but discontinued (much to the horror of millions of fans) in 2003.

2. Galaxy Truffle - from Celebrations

Galaxy chocolate with a delectable truffle core. Included in Celebrations boxes until 2011, when Mars sneakily switched it for Twix.

This year, Galaxy Truffle has finally returned, rebranded and sold separately to Celebrations, but nothing can beat the original Truffle.

3. Rowntree's Tooty Fruities

Multi-coloured sweets with hard sugar shells and a chewy fruity centre.

Axed by Rowntree's parent company Nestle in 2019, after 60 years, in a move described by fans as a ‘satanic act'.

Some went as far as starting a petition to make Nestle change its mind.

But Rowntree's said in a series of replies on Twitter: "We've had to say goodbye. The poor Tooty Fruities weren't as popular as the rest of the gang."

As revealed in the list, there were a few long-gone snacks that most of the nation would be more than happy to forget, with Kia Ora Sweets, Cartoonies, Hubba Bubba Bubble Jug and Vanilla Ice Cream Monster Munch getting less than 1 per cent of the votes apiece.

Commenting on the research, Karina Adrian, Head of Brand Marketing at GalaBingo.com, said: "It’s absolutely gutting when your go-to snack is discontinued.

"While we can’t promise a triumphant return of the nation’s favourites to UK supermarket shelves, we hope our poll will help snack brands to see you’ve not forgotten these retro classics!”
