We might still be waiting on the arrival of the much-anticipated Grinch Musical at The Lowry this Christmas, but a true classic has just been announced for next year.
C.S. Lewis' much-loved The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe is coming to the Salford venue for a seven-week run.
Sally Cookson’s highly acclaimed stage production is currently playing to packed houses at the Bridge Theatre in London, and broke box office records when it premiered at Leeds Playhouse in 2017.
It will begin a major tour of the UK and Ireland in November and will be The Lowry's big Christmas show when it stops here from December 9, 2020, until January 23, 2021.
The 'spell-binding and imaginative production' promises to re-tell the story with 'a mix of Cookson’s trade-mark theatricality, humour, music and puppetry.
It promises to take audiences on 'the most mystical of adventures in a faraway land' as they step through the wardrobe into the icy, enchanted realm of Narnia.
Audiences will join siblings Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter as they wave goodbye to war-time Britain and say hello to a talking Faun, an unforgettable Lion and the coldest, cruellest White Witch.
Cookson’s previous productions include Peter Pan and Jane Eyre for the National Theatre, Hetty Feather in the West End and the Olivier Award-winning A Monster Calls at London’s Old Vic and on tour.

The performance will last for two hours and 40 minutes, including a 20-minute interval.
