The Lion King remake's 'Hakuna Matata' shot-for-shot with original is raising eyebrows

The live-action version of “Hakuna Matata” in Disney’s The Lion King remake has been released – and fans of the original aren’t impressed.

Disney unveiled the clip just one week before the film’s scheduled release and it shows the photo-realistic versions of Simba (Donald Glover), Timon (Billy Eichner) and Pumbaa (Seth Rogen) in action singing the beloved song.

While initial feedback of the film has been positive, this clip has sparked concern among diehard fans of the 1994 original.

This hasn’t been helped by one Twitter user placing the clip alongside the original in a brand new video that’s making its way around Twitter.

You can see it with your own eyes below.

“Oh my god it looks pathetic when you put them side by side,” one twitter user wrote, while another wondered how Jon Favreau’s direction could possibly match the wonderment achieved in the animated version.

“I don’t see how Favreau can improve on this, especially considering how his direction often is more functional than expressive,” AdequateEmily wrote.

“It’s so realistic that all the life is gone,” another mused.

Despite this, those who have already seen the film have been marvelling at its “beautiful effects”, which have been described as a “game-changer” for VFX.

Beyonce portrays Nala, Simba’s best friend, with James Earl Jones reprising his role from the original films as Simba’s father Mufasa.

The Lion King will hit UK cinemas on 19 July 2019.
