THE Cambridge Hotel will be closed until at least May to comply with the Federal Government's tighter restrictions on limiting the spread of coronavirus.
The Newcastle West pub, which is arguably the city's most iconic live music venue, released a statement on Thursday morning.
Initially the Cambridge had hoped to continue trading at a capped capacity of 500 to comply with the government's initial restrictions.
But the government's announcement on Thursday, which limited non-essential indoor gatherings to 100 people, made it impossible to continue.
"Given yesterday's announcement by the Government regarding the restriction of non-essential group gatherings of more than 100 people, The Cambridge will be closed until further notice," the statement said.
"All shows up until May will be officially postponed/scheduled with further details being emailed directly to ticket-holders.
"The scene is suffering right now. We implore you to buy your favourite band's merch, stream their songs and support everybody in and around the industry.
"The lights are dark but the band will be back on stage real soon. Rock on."
Some of the shows affected include The Vanns (April 4), The Iron Maidens (April 5) and Holy Holy (April 9).
