The Libertines announce 20th anniversary gig at Castlefield Sounds of the City

The Libertines are to play Castlefield 's Sounds of the City series in July 2022 - as part of the band's 20th anniversary celebrations.

The show will celebrate The Libertines' debut album, Up The Bracket, which first introduced the world to the band of London bohemians whose ragged tunes, red military tunics, opiated poetry and ‘live now pay never’ lifestyle came to define the millennial angst of the early noughties.

At the heart of the band is the blood bond bromance between the Peter Doherty and Carl Barat, ably assisted by the rock solid rhythm twins John Hassall and Gary Powell.

Up The Bracket was originally released in October 2002 by Rough Trade Records.

The album, a heady stew of indie rock, skiffle, blues, dub and English bucolic pop, was produced by Mick Jones of The Clash and is considered a British rock 'n' roll classic.

The Libertines start their celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the album with four headline shows, starting in Manchester at the Castlefield Bowl on July 1 before dates in Hatfield, Cardiff and Edinburgh.

Tickets go on-sale at 9:00am on Friday 3rd December from Gigs and Tours here

The gig announcement comes amid a growing list of shows at the 2022 Sounds of the City series.

Acts already announced include Pixies, Foals, Crowded House and Lewis Capaldi.
