The lessons Unai Emery can take from Jurgen Klopp to get the best from Nicolas Pepe at Arsenal

Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit believes that Unai Emery should emulate Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp's tactics in order to get the best out of Arsenal's attacking players this season.

The Gunners bought in Ivorian forward Nicolas Pepe in a deal worth a club record £72m this summer. He started his first game of the season in the 3-1 loss to Klopp's Liverpool last weekend, but Petit was encouraged by the new arrival's performance at Anfield.

"I'm not surprised by Nicolas Pépé's performance against Liverpool," the Frenchman told Paddy Power News

"I thought he was the best Arsenal player on the pitch. He was the only one who looked like he was a danger to the Liverpool defence. Every time he got the ball in space, he was a real threat."

"Pépé will show the Premier League what he's made of. He looks skinny and fragile but he's very toned and very fast - and of course superb with the ball at his feet."

There is much excitement among Arsenal fans at the prospect of Pepe playing in a front three with both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, although they have not had much playing time together yet.

Liverpool play with a front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah a trio that causes any Premier League defender problems, and Petit believes that Unai Emery should take the example of how the Reds line up.

Unai Emery: Arsenal showed 'character' against Liverpool

"He (Pepe) speaks the same football language as Lacazette and Aubameyang in terms of movement and passing," he said.

"It's just a bit frustrating that Arsenal haven't played slightly more offensively so far. It was only in the last 20 minutes of the Liverpool match that Emery made the decision to put three up front - and we saw straight away that the face of the team changed.

"I hope the manager will have the guts to do what Jurgen Klopp does with his front three - Emery needs to do the same with Arsenal."
